About

TLG Capital is an award-winning private investment firm dedicated to empowering frontier market entrepreneurs, with a focus on opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

Founded in 2009, we invest in sectors underpinned by the ‘rise of the African consumer’.
Leveraging our unique depth of SSA experience and relationships across the continent, our team look across the entire capital structure to identify and structure investments that we believe have inherent deep value.

Since inception, the firm has built a strong portfolio and has exited several successful transactions. TLG was recognised as the 2016 Best Frontier Market Investment Firm UK by Acquisition International.

TLG firmly believes that impact creation is crucial to sustained financial success. We are committed to tackling persistent challenges and better directing resources towards improving the lives for some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Our investments have had a significantly social, environmental and development impact across Sub-Saharan Africa.

TLG Africa

Formed in 2009, TLG Africa Limited is a permanent capital investment vehicle focusing on equity opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

TLG Africa invests in sectors underpinned by the ‘rise of the African consumer’, such as: healthcare, finance, consumer goods and real estate. These investments include direct minority/majority stake investments, secondary opportunities and distressed fund restructurings. TLG Africa always seeks board representation, along with other minority protections.

Notable investments include WHO pre-approved pharmaceutical plant QCIL (Uganda) and healthcare facilities in West Africa. In recognition for our efforts, our deals have won multiple awards including ‘Landmark Deal of the Decade’ in 2012 and 'Frontier Deal of the Year' in 2014 from Private Equity Africa.

TLG Credit Opportunities Fund (COF)

Formed in 2016, TLG COF focuses on US$ denominated proprietary credit special situations that generate attractive yields while mitigating risk through collateral and credit enhancements.

Due to the distinct lack of US$ funding for SMEs in Africa, short and mid-term borrowing is extraordinarily expensive, often in excess of 30% annually even for quality Small Medium Enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs. TLG COF fills in this gap by providing innovative funding solutions for this ‘missing middle’ SME space. TLG COF de-risks these debt instruments by structuring in bank guarantees or insurer wraps with equity kickers and high coupons.

TLG has successfully concluded several such credit-enhanced deals, including consumer FinTech firm MyBucks, which was recognised as Debt Deal of the Year in 2015 from Private Equity Africa. MyBucks has since successfully listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2016.
