Zain Latif, Principal
The founder and principal of TLG Capital, a private equity firm that provides growth capital to businesses in Frontier Markets; particularly those in Sub-Saharan Africa. Since inception in September 2009, the firm has completed deals across Africa principally in the field of healthcare. Notable investments include WHO pre-approved pharmaceutical plant QCIL (Uganda), healthcare facilities in West Africa and an investment into Iroko Securities; a leading African Fixed Income boutique in London which has executed over US$1.3bn of debt financing since 2005.
Prior to founding TLG Capital, Zain Latif was an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs in the New Markets division focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa across all products. He joined Goldman Sachs from Merrill Lynch where he was involved in originating and executing a number of ground-breaking emerging market transactions in Africa. Before joining Merrill, Mr. Latif was involved in spear-heading the special situations African effort at HSBC which culminated in a widely reported inaugural debt/equity hybrid structure for a leading Nigerian financial institution.
Mr Latif holds a Masters degree in Finance achieved at the age of 19 from Cass Business School in 2003 and currently sits on a number of the investee companies boards.
